Process engineering

We have significant experience of process design and project management, particularly fast-track projects in the chemical industry.

Our expertise is based on substantial experience in manufacturing environments, particularly the speciality and fine chemical industry and we have extensive experience in carrying out pressure relief calculations for both reactive and non-reactive systems. We can also provide support and assistance in process development, technology assessment, flowsheet development, cost estimation, process design, installation supervision and commissioning. Our experience has primarily been gained with upper tier COMAH sites handling substantial quantities of toxic or flammable substances.

Synsol is geared up to carry out a wide range of process engineering tasks varying from feasibility studies right through to detailed design, and beyond.

DSEAR and ATEX

We can help with all aspects of explosion risk assessment and hazardous area classification .

DSEAR (and ATEX) requires employers to assess the risks of fires and explosions that may be caused by dangerous substances in the workplace and eliminate or reduce these risks as far as is reasonably practicable.

The risk assessment is an identification and careful examination of the dangerous substances present or liable to be present in the workplace; the work activities involving them; and how they might fail and cause fire, explosion and similar events that could harm employees and the public.

As well as assessing the normal activities within the workplace, you will also need to assess non-routine activities, such as maintenance work, where there is often a higher potential for fire and explosion incidents to occur.

Area classification is often described as an art, it can be very subjective and heavily dependent on experience and accrued/developed knowledge. We do not claim to be able to make you experts overnight but we can provide you with expert advice and support.

We provide both consulting services and training in explosion risk assessment and hazardous area classification to assist you in achieving compliance with DSEAR. If you want a compliance review, gap analysis, explosion risk assessment or hazardous area classification - we can help.

Process safety

We are confident we will be able to help you on your Process Safety journey. We can support you in hazard studies, consequence analysis and many other aspects of risk management.

Facilities that handle or process hazardous chemicals have a responsibility to prevent and mitigate the effects of major accidents involving dangerous substances which can cause serious damage or harm to people and/or the environment.

An effective Process Safety Management (PSM) system will be essential in addressing this.

Our process safety experts are able to advise you with realistic and pragmatic solutions. We can help you plan, design and develop your process safety programme, using industry standards to form site-specific procedures and then support you in implementing these. We can also support in the entire risk management process including hazard identification, hazard analysis, HAZOP, LOPA, consequence analysis, and QRA.

Training

Our most popular training courses are the DSEAR Foundation and Area Classification training. We can tailor any of our training courses to suit your requirements and deliver at your site.

Synsol Limited provides various training options, delivered at your premises, tailored to your requirements.

Our most popular training courses are:
